General Summary:

An individual who is proficient in the operation and maintenance of the bullet transfer presses. Individual will perform minor operational changes to press to achieve bullet specifications. Individual must have a clear understanding and knowledge of all the measurements taken and recorded during normal operation of press. Will be engaged in learning the troubleshooting process and fundamentals of bullet production according to department specifications.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)

  • Must understand all procedures and operations for correctly operating a transfer press
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of bullet transfer press
  • Must be able to accurately inspect bullets both visually and dimensionally, using the appropriate tools in the department
  • Must be able to detect problems with bullets visually and dimensionally and produce each bullet to specifications
  • Must diagnose and fix problems concerning accuracy and function
  • Must be able to read and follow all setup records, history sheets and procedures
  • Complete Maintenance, Start of Shift and LPA checklists
  • Must be able to record all necessary paperwork legibly and accurately
  • Must listen and follow instruction from Lead and Press Supervisor
  • Must be alert, aware and able to follow company safety policies
  • Must clearly communicate requisitioned needs for tooling and supplies to the Press Lead or Supervisor in a timely manner
  • Must maintain a clean, orderly, and safe shop environment
  • Must be willing to rotate shifts or shift work may be required on a permanent basis                                        (Monday – Thursday 6:00 am – 4:30 pm and Monday – Thursday 4:00 pm – 2:30 am)

  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when necessary

Education, Skills, and Experience

To perform this successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • 6-12 months experience operating machinery in a production setting or equivalent

  • Mechanical experience required

  • Must understand basic math; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

  • Must have excellent communication skills

  • Punctuality and reliability is a must

  • Ability to speak, read and write in the English language sufficient enough to perform the following:
    • Communicate effectively with other team members and supervision
    • Read and comprehend process instructions
    • Record pertinent process information as required

Personal Tool Requirements

Including but not limited to. These tools must be calibrated and kept in good working order.

  • 0-1” micrometer (.0001 increments)
  • 0-8” caliper (.001 increments)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but is often loud in specified areas.  Hearing and eye protection is provided.  

Safety Shoes meeting OSHA/ANSI Z-41 specifications are required for anyone working in the production department. Anyone working on the ammunition loading equipment or working in the Ballistic Lab are also required to have electrostatic dissipative (ESD) shoes.

  • Position requires a great deal of movement and standing on your feet up to 100% of the day

  • Ability to climb (14ft ladders) both ascending and descending using feet and hands up to 10% of the day

  • Ability to lift, balance and maneuver up to 50 lbs while standing on a ladder (loading hoppers)

  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 20-30% of the day

  • Good hearing and listening habits to determine abnormal machines noises

  • Very good visual skills to determine bullet defects and flaws

  • Good hygiene and grooming habits, no exposed midriff’s, closed toed shoes required
