General Summary:

The Ammunition Packaging Supervisor provides direct, daily leadership to employees in their area, focusing on core operational values of safety, quality, cost management and conformance to production schedules to satisfy customer requirements. Responsible for all packaging of ammunition, ensuring compliance to production commitments, training employees, completing reports on progress, materials inventory management and manufacturing costs. Experienced and proficient the processes in the ammunition packaging area.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)

  • Establish strategic direction which supports company goals throughout their department
  • Prepare department budgets, including cost out initiatives
  • Prepare CAP EX requisitions including ROI justifications
  • Drive continual improvements and eliminate waste in areas such as, but not limited to: safety, process reliability, product quality, productivity, manufacturing costs and schedule performance
  • Complete daily Layered Process Audits (LPA’s) and weekly GEMBA audits
  • Review department LPA’s to ensure they are accurate and effective
  • Ensure effective Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Board meetings are being held to drive continual improvement in Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, 5S and Morale
  • Provide development training to employees to achieve company objectives and goals
  • Analyze problems by collecting and organizing data and proposing the best course of action
  • Work with area Leads to design and implement standard operating procedures for all the department’s operations
  • Ensure planned efficiency and performance goals are met or exceeded
  • Work with Quality Department to develop and help implement quality control standards
  • Coordinate that the correct ammunition is being packaged according to the monthly schedule
  • Ensure the proper Ammunition Packaging Plan is being followed
  • Create and update new packaging plans for products
  • Create and update new labels for products
  • Stock department supplies and materials needed for daily production on all tables throughout shift
  • Make daily schedule for employees. Ensure employees are meeting standards
  • Evaluate and develop efficiency standards with Leads
  • Complete inventory cycle counts using the ERP system
  • Create monthly packaging and supply inventory documents
  • Must keep accurate and detailed paperwork for tracking and inventory purposes
  • Complete end of run travelers; scrap material as needed
  • Ensure that all procedures and documentation of travelers, including traveler face, inspection record, etc…are filled out and adhered to consistently and correctly
  • Accurately confirm packaged ammunition into ERP inventory
  • Manage re-order points, supply inventory. Report needed items in a timely manner
  • Must be able to listen and follow instructions from Management
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when necessary

Education, Skills, and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Minimum 3 years experience in Ammunition Packaging or Loading Department preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Be a team leader
  • Be able to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • Must be punctual, reliable and honest
  • Must be willing and able to learn new tasks
  • Good reading skills to be able to follow written procedures correctly
  • Good writing skills to be able to fill out paperwork correctly and legibly
  • Must have good math skills, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Ability to speak, read and write in the English language sufficient enough to perform the following:
    • Communicate effectively with other team members and supervision
    • Read and comprehend process instructions
    • Record pertinent process information as required

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather.
  • Safety Shoes meeting OSHA/ANSI Z-41 specifications are required for anyone working in the production department. Anyone working on the ammunition loading equipment or working in the Ballistic Lab are also required to have electrostatic dissipative (ESD) shoes. An annual safety shoe subsidy will be provided for the employee.

  • Good visual skills to see and determine bullet defects and flaws when packaging

  • Good hygiene and grooming habits, no exposed midriff’s, safety shoes required
  • Position requires a great deal of movement and standing on your feet up to 100% of the day
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs both ascending and descending using feet and hands
  • Ability to lift, balance and maneuver up to 40 lbs while standing on a ladder
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to push and pull carts up to 1500 lbs
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when necessary
