Cameron is 13 years old, is in the eighth grade, plays football and wrestles. He’s also on the Distinguished Honor Roll in school. He’s been hunting with me, his father, since he was about five years old. Last year was the first year he actually carried a gun on a hunt, and he killed a nice six-point Pennsylvania whitetail. This year he shot a cow elk and a nice eight-point buck—all with Barnes’ TSX bullets in cartridges he reloaded himself.
This all started when I let him seat Barnes X Bullets in the elk loads I was making several years ago, then had him write his name on the cases with a Sharpie pen.
I have a gunsmithing background, and he’s falling into the same pattern. He’s been building custom knife kits for friends and has refinished several stocks. He has asked for a Hawkins muzzleloader kit for Christmas so he can build the rifle himself. (The other night he asked me if Barnes made any round ball bullets for the muzzleloader he plans to make.)
Cameron loves to hunt and shoot. He also loves to reload, and loves your bullets! He brags your bullets up every chance he gets. During the hunt when Cameron killed his cow, a friend of mine wounded a nice bull using his “old standby” Core-Lokt bullets after failing to buy a box of Federal Premium ammunition loaded with TSX bullets I had recommended. After my friend wounded and lost his bull, Cameron MADE him take five of his Barnes TSX reloads, then guided him on a walk uphill for more than an hour. Then Cameron settled him down and led him through the oak brush until he had a shot at a beautiful six-point bull. He killed the elk using Cameron’s 165-grain TSX reloads in his .30-06.
Cameron is quite a boy! I’m very proud of him.
