Huntress Spotlight
Niki Atcheson

Niki Atcheson grew up in the kingdom of Ruanda-Urundi, which later became Rwanda and Burundi. Her father was a missionary doctor and a hunter. Some of her earliest memories were of safari camps along the Ruzizi and Ruvuvu rivers.

Years later, Niki’s family moved to the United States, where she continued hunting deer with her father. Finally, her chance came to hunt in Africa again. Keith Atcheson, Jack Atcheson and Sons set her up with PH Gavin Rorke of Russ Broom Safaris in Zimbabwe for some serious dangerous game instruction. “I knew after that first hunt I would never quit hunting dangerous game,” she said.

Since then, Niki has made many hunts for Cape buffalo, elephants, lion, leopards and plains game using Barnes Bullets. “After a few African hunts, I wanted to take my skills to a higher level. I had my chance with Eugene Yap of South Point Safaris, who offered me a guiding position.”

Niki guided for Eugene on remote Mauna Loa for four years. Niki married Keith seven years ago and the two of them now hunt the world together. Along with the hunting consulting business, Keith and Niki are outfitters. Called Hunters Montana, their company is located in Montana, where they both guide for elk, deer and antelope. Three years, ago Niki’s 13th buffalo nearly gored her to death in Zimbabwe. Since the accident, she has continued to hunt dangerous game, killing two more buffalo.

Between them, Keith and Niki have four daughters and a son. “All our children love to hunt!,” Niki says. “Sharing these experiences with our family has been an amazing adventure!” Niki also loves to write. Some of her stories have been published to encourage other women hunters.
