My First Mother/Daughter Hunt
I am very happy to share the story of my first mother/daughter hunt with visitors to the Barnes website. I am very vocal in supporting and encouraging women to discover hunting and the shooting sports.

I didn’t begin hunting or shooting until I met my future husband, Michael, in 1998. As I was from Los Angeles, those two activities were most certainly on my list of things not to do, ever! But after a couple years of gentle coaxing, educating, and encouraging, he finally convinced me to go the shooting range with him. You can see from the photos the result that eventually had. In addition to hunting, we are also active in local IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) matches and are NRA-certified instructors.

My hunting experiences here in Colorado include harvesting three mule deer and three cow elk. I must admit I’m as excited for small game season to start each year as I am for big game season to begin.

Hunting mule deer is really what motivates me every year, and last year’s buck was particularly special. Although we didn’t know at the time what the sex of our child was going to be (we like surprises), I’ll always consider that fall 2004 big game season to be Annika and Mommy’s first mother/daughter hunt. Hopefully, it will be the first of many!
