Chance Counts

Chance Counts, of Little River, Texas, is 12 years old. At age four, he began accompanying his father on hunting trips, where he helped man the deer stand. Chance shot his first deer-an eight-point buck-when he was six, and this year took his largest whitetail ever.

Chance attends school in the Academy School District, where he is an honor roll student enrolled in the gifted and talented program. He has won several awards in UIL (University Interscholastic League) competition. Chance was awarded a scholastic medal from Duke University for the highest ACT score of any student in his school district this past year. That alone is an achievement, but when you note that he was a 7th grader competing against high school students, it is even more impressive.

The beautiful deer and Chance’s smile pictured here are the result of the first trip out with his new .243 rifle and Barnes XLC loads. The 10-point buck (11 points if you count a small kicker) had a 21-inch spread. Chance is the son of Tim and Chris Counts
