  2. Dave says:

    NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  3. Keith Leyendecker says:

I am so sorry to hear you are discontinuing the MRX. I am looking to buy some .338 in 225 grain. They shoot amaizingly accurately in my gun. Do you have any more or know a retailer who does? Thank you.

  4. bbullets says:

    Keith,

I have passed on your information to our Consumer Service department where they can help you find a retailer.

  5. bbullets says:

    Louis,

We are completely out of the MRX bullets at our facility. I would suggest checking with DoubleTap Ammunition or your local retailer.

  6. Keith L Mallory says:

I just returned from Africa and had a wonderful time thanks to the Barnes MRX. I harvested 11 plains game animals and only one took two bullets, which I shot high the first shot. These bullets were as devastating as in the video clips. When the skinners were caping the animals the wound channels were huge. They worked from the small springbok to the large blue wildebeest. I am so glad that I choose the Barnes MRX bullets. I used the 300 win mag in 180 grains and still got 2 boxes left. These will be used on my next adventure.

  7. Hombre Viejo says:

Bummer! I used ‘em to kill my elk last year, they performed perfectly.

  8. Northern Hiker says:

Sorry to hear that the MRX is discontinued. I used the 180 grain MRX in my 300 win mag last year for a moose hunt. The bull dropped in his tracks from a spine shot. The results were great and my rifle shot the MRX well. A buddy shot a mountain goat with the 180 grain MRX, also from a 300 win mag, and the results were impressive.

  9. Phil Rauwolf says:

Yeah, that makes sense!! Like the way the Liberals in Congress decided to improve the economy by cutting government jobs and raise taxes!! I think that this MRX is the best bullet that was ever made for the general public. I died a little inside when I found out you were giving them the ax. I have tried a large number of big game bullets up here in Alaska and I just dont know what I will use now in my .338. Please reconsider.

  10. Coyote says:

When I found out they were being discontinued, I too, like Mr. Phil Rauwolf said “died a little inside”. :-(
However, given the SAD state of our economy by our stupid government that, unlike the rest of us taxpayers, cannot even keep their budget balanced, I can understand why you had to discontinue the MRX line.
I loved the 185gr MRX bullets in my .338 Win Mag! THANKFULLY, you did come out with the 185 gr TTSXBT version and I am in the process of some extensive testing with them. I am sure as far as the accuracy goes I will not be disappointed and at the velocities I can reach safely, I will not be disappointed either.
Perhaps someday, knowing the fertile minds that work at the company, you will come up with something that might be less expensive than the Silvex material but still have the performance characteristics that the MRX bullets did. :-)
I’ll be watching the webpage! :-D

  11. Jason Robertson says:

Why the 180grain in my 300 is a killing machine is there gonna be a replacement in the near future why why why?

  12. Noah Gordon says:

This is a tragedy. I can rarely afford these rounds but use them when hunting elk. The 130gr .277 smashed my trophy bull last year with one shot. It will be missed.

I also noticed that you do not have the LRX in .277 yet. If I could help with anything to get this caliber LRX to market please let me know.

  13. Johngregori says:

    Wow! Too bad.

When will you come out with a .277 140gr. LRX? This should be a perfect replacement for the 130gr. MRX.

We need .277 LRXs soon! :) Please let us know. Thanks!

  14. G. Lockhart says:

Yes, a .277 140gr. in a LRX or TTSX would be a great bullet.

  15. Bob Purvis says:

So, the bean counters at Cerberus are doing to Barnes what they have done to every other company they have eviscerated. I assume the quality of the product will nose dive as well.

  16. bbullets says:

Bob, to clarify, the “Cerberus bean counters” did not make the decision to discontinue the MRX. The Barnes team (in Mona, Utah) has been contemplating discontinuing the MRX for a few years now based on the success of the Tipped TSX. The two bullets are basically identical in the front end – the difference is in the back end. The tungsten core made this bullet extremely expensive. Each year, sales declined due to people switching to the Tipped TSX. Whether Freedom Group had owned Barnes today or not, the decision to discontinue this line would have been made. It just didn’t make sense to keep it. -JSB

    Don’t do it.

  18. WonderMan4 says:

Well, progress is every where. Speer is dropping the HotCore line and coming out with a deep curl without regard to what it is doing to faithful customers. But, their dilema is the idea of bring something new to the table. The Barnes team is possibly doing the same. The innovations of developing something new is always a challenging task when the success depends on performance and the customer satisfaction. So far so good with both the Speer team and the Barnes team.

  19. fred rubio says:

Same story: Some people chance on something and can’t change– it’s the end of the world.
You’ve made great innovations, so far. Keep going.

  20. mario says:

Cabelas has some for the 338…. I am buying 6 boxes… Never shot it but all I read is good things… I will save them after I get them sighted in…
    Thanks for the input…

  21. bbullets says:

To our loyal customers still looking for the MRX bullet; Double Tap Ammunition still has a small selection of MRXs available. This URL will take you to the Double Tap site. http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/index.php?cPath=109

    Happy hunting.

  22. Don says:

Very saddened by the discontinuance of this bullet. For use in a .338RCM, there isn’t a better choice in 250 and 225gr bullets. Consider the short OAL of many cartridges like the RCM’s. Guys desiring a higher BC, yet somewhat heavier bullet for use on dangerous game, or when hunting in dangerous game territory will want these. Perhaps Barnes could occasionally make some of these to fill the niche market need, even though the retail price may be high.

  23. Mario says:

Only saw this announcement by accident, and unlike other reviewers I have to say that I understand the decision completely.

The only advantage of MRX over TTSX that I could ever see is when case capacity is an issue. They were far too expensive for that little advantage though. Would I have paid 10-20% extra over TTSX for that? Sure. But the price difference was far more than that.
