Randy’s Plane Crash

We have received many messages from people offering their thoughts and prayers to our family following Randy’s plane crash into Lake Powell with his brother, Les Brooks, and Rulon Gardner on Saturday, February 24th. Thankfully, everyone came out of the ordeal relatively unscathed. It was a night that the three of them and their families do not want to relive. It was truly agonizing for their loved ones that night, who waited by the phone, not knowing where Randy, Rulon & Les were, and we have really appreciated everyone’s caring and kind words of encouragement. I thought I would post comments received from some of you. Feel free to send one in, if you like. I’ll forward them on to Randy - he does read them. If you haven’t read the story and are interested to know what happened, click on this link.

Thanks for your support and good shooting,

    Randy,

I read about the crash when it happened and never realized that the Randy Brooks mentioned was YOU. So glad to hear that you guys survived and are doing okay. Not many of us get two chances to live our lives…now concentrate on the really important things in life; God, family and hunting! Thanks for all your help and support when I worked at Cabela’s in Sidney. All of us there always looked forward to you and Coni stopping by for a visit. On a lighter side…have you considered getting your float plane rating?

Take care and good luck with all your up coming hunts.

    Randy,

As a fellow pilot, please remember that the most worthless items to a pilot are fuel in the pump and altitude above you.

    Glad to hear everyone survived.

    Randy and Connie

I haven’t seen the both of you for some time, but I just thought to let you know I do think about you. I don’t know if I ever told you, but my father was a bush pilot out of Salmon Idaho, and much of the time that plane was my baby sitter.

Knowing what I do about planes and the kind of landing (?) Randy made, well…someone WAS looking out for you. No doubt that experience brought to mind how quickly you can loose whats really important…family and love ones.

    You both take good care.

    regards

    Paul Prochko

    Randy,

You might remember me (I was Alan’s secretary over at the airport for a year or so) I didn’t realize until recently that this was about you, but it is good to know you and everyone are okay. You and your wife were always kind to me. :)

    Thanks,

    Cali

What an experience, wow. Three things never to do: Fly with Rulon, snowmobile with Rulon, and get on the mat with Rulon.

I had to forward this story to one of my physiology professors from medical school at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He studied hypothermia. I think he will be amazed that you all survived…just as I was!
